Tunnel Vision

Prosperous TavernAfter having emerged from the dirty tunnel into the overhanging quarry, your party looks worse for wear.  Hot, tired, and dirty (well, Chad looks normal), you stumble back into town looking for a warm bed and a cool ale.  The sun has set as you enter the town square, headed towards the Wise Piper.  The square has almost a festival atmosphere, there are singers on soapboxes, vendors selling food, and traders selling thingamabobs at whatchamacallits.  There is a man putting on a medicine show, and women espousing the teachings of Calistria.  There is a large tent being set up,  full of chairs and a podium.  A sign outside says “Hunclay Estate Auction – Tomorrow after breakfast”.  A look inside the Wise Piper shows that it is packed, wall to wall with visitors.  You see men dressed in traditional Osirion garb, a group of men and women dressing if fine silks, a group of adventures seems to be telling tales of their exploits in the corner, and a man dressed all in white, including headdress sits alone in a chair along the wall.  Several different races, including Half Orcs, and Tengu sit at the bar.

  1. “Can someone fill me in on what happened after we fought those fish men? That big amenomine thing attacked me, and I could see it try to eat Thornbjorg, then you all rushed into the next room to fight that thing that was making that awful noise. I know I stumbled along with you after that, but I really was still getting over being stung… that really hurt!”

  2. I remember that Heschen left us at the entrance to Nhur Athemon’s cave, and gave us those magic rings and wand. We descended into the darkness, and came into a room where some floating thing gave us a warning and told us to put our weapons in the rack. We did, and they became enchanted. We proceeded through a door into a magical underground wood, where we battled a giant two headed snake! While most of us faced this fearsome beast, which Broadtoe finally dispatched with a mighty blow of his sword, Samanthi singlehandedly faced an ooze on the party’s flank, dousing it with alkali and slicing it to pieces.

Wong realized that the forest was in fact a magical illusion, and helped the party to realize this, and we pressed on through a door in what was now revealed as a stone chamber. We found another large cavern, split down the middle by a large cliff. At the north of the cliff we were attacked by strange creatures (which Wong told us were elementals). Samanthi, Thornbjorn, Tala and I waded into them, while Chad filled them with arrows. We were hurt by blows and by lightning, but with the wand Heschen gave us we healed ourselves. We climbed the cliff and found it to find it was a large wall, with a door at the north and stairs descending to the other side of the cavern, which also opened up to the south. I opened the door at the top of the wall and saw a large underwater chamber with a magical pathway, and then heard the sounds of battle to the south, as more elementals attacked. Chad attacked an owl that was observing the fight, and another illusion disappeared.

From the south of the chamber, goblin creatures attacked, but were not able to hurt us much. Samanthi and Thornbjorn had dispatched several, and Chad dropped one with arrows. Wong sent a huge flaming ball bouncing into their midst, and after a few moments most of the contents of that chamber we also revealed as an illusion, but for one stalagmite made of strange material.

We proceeded into the strange underwater room and did battle with the strange fish men and the thing that stung me and paralyzed me, then went south into a room with another pool where we defeated something called a “Gibbering Mouther”…. Whatever it was, it sure made an unpleasant noise….
