Good King Nighttail

The party stands amidst the ruins of the reign of the previous leader of the Blood Vow tribe.  The smell of burned flesh and smoke still lingers in the hot, muggy cave.  The chest of loot lies on the floor, the lid flipped back to enable examination of the contents.  Nighttail sits atop faithful Hak, looking about the cave.

Master Wong says, "So, Nighttail.  Mmm, there does not seem to be much of a tribe left to rule, true?  Are their other members of the Bloodvow tribe that might be hidden away somewhere, that we need to worry about? How are you sure they will accept your rule?  We will not always be here to ensure they are not causing you trouble."

At this point Wong turns and looks directly into the eyes of Nighttail, who, mounted, is at eye level with most of the party for a change.  "Also, they must not trouble the humans of this area.  There have been attacks on them, on the tower near their village.  This must not happen again.  Or we cannot guarantee the survival of what remains of the Blood Vow tribe."  Wong give a slight bow to Nighttail.  "You have told us that you can ensure that this will not be a problem, as their new leader.  Can you perhaps also let us speak with some of them, to find out why they toppled the tower? Who forced or paid them to do such a thing?"

  1. A couple of the party members also go retrieve the young girl and the older couple who had been prisoners of the Blood Vow tribe and bring them to Nighttail's new throne room to tell their tale. The group collects some of the trinkets the slaves had been putting together to examine them more closely.

  2. Mal elbows Wong as he talks to Nighttail.

"Ask him about this wizard. What does he know about him? And what about a book? Has he seen the book?"

  3. And ask if he's seen Silas Grib! The trail is growing cold... we must find what Grib did with that book!

  4. "No, no, I understand. No trouble for the humans, I assure you. Make no mistake, I owe you a debt, and part of my repayment will be my duty to be a good king, and as king, one must get along with other sovereignties, especially the humans...perhaps we could even help each other." You get the sense that he is absolutely telling the truth.
"As to a book? I know none of that...nor do I know of anyone named Grib...but if I do, I will certainly let you know!"

  5. "Master Nighttail, can you question your people to find out more about the human who had them assault the tower? He could perhaps decide at some point that it would be best to destroy the Blood Vow tribe, to hide any connection between them and him. We can perhaps help to prevent such action by going to him directly. This would go a long way in building good relations with the local humans, who bear muuuch anger for those who attacked the tower."

  6. "Um", Nighttail pauses as he looks around. "You see me? You are looking at what is left of the Blood Vow Tribe. I know little to nothing about the tower. As I said, I told them not to mess with that wizard guy. Live and let live. I suspect that Roaghaz was working for or with someone else..he wasn't bright enough, nor brave enough alone to challenge a wizard, or any human for that matter." He looks at the bodies of some of the slain kobolds, then turns to his companion, Hak. "I think you are right. There is no more Blood Vow Tribe." His face breaks out in a huge grin. "Long live the Night Tail Tribe! But don't worry my friends, as I said, I haven't forgotten about your part in all of this, you are Kingmakers! (c) So, as my first official deed, I will name you, each of you, friends of the Night Tail Tribe." He seems to ponder something. "Have you thought of a name? Most adventuring groups have them, or so I hear. Anyway, as my friends, feel free to call upon me for aid. If Hak and I are around, we will certainly help."

  7. Thorbjörn scoffs, "A name? As far as I'm concerned, all we are is a bunch of travelers who happen to be heading in the same direction and who took the opportunity to earn some coin together. We are not blood. We are not oathbound. Do you name the group of patrons that happen to drink together in the pub at night? Of course not. Neither should this group have a name." Thorbjörn turns to look at his companions, "Are we done talking to this tiny lizard yet? I have better things to do. Now that I've paid homage to Gorum, I think a bit of homage to Cayden and Calistria is in order--if you take my meaning."

  8. Talab regards the rest of the group in an offhand fashion. "I agree with Thorbjorn. Once we name this group, we acknowledge some sort of sentiment regarding each other. There is no name required - once we have accomplished our mutual goals, we shall return to our homes."

  9. I'm telling you, we're NOT some random group. Heshen told me all of your names and told me that I would find you at the Wise Piper, and that you would help me find this book, and stop something bad from happening!
