If your memory serves you well, we'll meet again and wait...

“We need to talk….” says the female Dwarf, looking at all of you as she puts her mug of ale on the table in front of the blue dragon head.
A different voice comes from the corner of the room, another female dwarf, wearing some sort of odd hide armor, by the fireplace.  She waives her hand about the room, out the door.  “Looks like we got here just in time.”  She smiles, almost quizzical, “The Dragonknights of Belhaim, right?  Where have you lot been?”  Then glancing at her seated companion, pausing.  “Holy crap, Marnay, these guys, the last we heard of them….when, months ago?   They helped take down the Pathfinder Lodge right?”  She looks at Mal.  “You’re wanted by a lot of people…and with a heavy price on your heads.”
A thin human walks out of a doorway, nervously, he his biting his nails.
The sitting Dwarf, Marnay, speaks again.  “Phethean, how much?”
“100,000 gold….each”, the human sneers.
Marnay adjusts herself in her chair.  “By the looks of you, and this place, you’ve been busy….what have you been up to all this time?  More murder and chaos?”

  1. Thomas raises an inquiring eyebrow. "Who are you people, and why did you burn down this poor village?"

  2. "It has been a while since we have met, it is true. The last I remember, your friends 'rescued' you in the nick of time," says Tala nodding towards the male. "Perhaps you would like another chance at glory?" She smiles mischievously. "In any case, one of two things are true - either we actually destroyed the white dragon, whose skull we bear, and saved the countryside from further trouble and were set up to take the fall for the destruction of the Pathfinder Lodge in Absalom, OR we actually did destroy this entire village, slaying all of its human inhabitants and murdering innocent women and children and helped to lay siege to an, nay THE, Pathfinder Lodge, bringing that Order to its knees." Pause for effect. "No matter, you are about to either snub valuable and powerful allies or suffer the wrath of a group of incredibly powerful and evil beings who, with a mere whistle, can bring down a shu-maral of hurt upon your heads." Pause. Evil smile. Eyes roll up Undertaker-style. Deep breath. Roll eyes back. Smile. "Or, you can chose the middle way and ally yourselves with us in opposing this evil." Smiling seductively at the male. "Well, don't keep a woman waiting..."

  3. "We are the people who came to solve the White Dragon problem." The woman by the fireplace replied. She paused. "I take it you people already took care of that issue." She walked forward, looking to Marnay. "See, I told you we got here just in time."
Marnay looked up. "So...you killed Sjohvor? I guess that makes our job somewhat easier. You should thank us, these people, they were going to kill you when you got back. Something about you being responsible for the dragon attacks. Matter of fact....they attacked us. Self Defense."
"Though us and you was in cahoots, they did..." the thin human quipped, taking a break from the nail biting.
"So, again" Marnay said, "Where have you all been, and how did you get here? It seems like we have a common goal..."

    1. "You know what, and I think I speak for the group, we are TIRED of answering questions. WE want answers. The only human or half-human" cast aspirsive glance towards female dwarf, "I answer to are those in this motley crew I have taken up with. And I barely tolerate even them." (Muttering under breath "L'alurl abbil zhah dosstan"). "We are not here to retell our story. The Goddess has sent you here to see if your steel is worthy to be bared in battle with ours. She has told me of you, how you should be tested. It is you who must now answer questions, not us."

    2. Marnay shrugs. "Look, perhaps you misunderstand. You don't need to answer questions. We don't need answers. I merely asked to satisfy idle curiosity." She looks to her companions. "We got a call about a dragon menacing this town. We arrived to find the townsfolk in an uproar. They were in the midst of a meeting, I can only assume it was about you. Something about the fact that the leader did not have the authority to send you, and that it would likely bring the dragon back down on them. Then they saw us. Accused us of some sort of conspiracy with you, demanded that we surrender, or something like it." She points to a cut in her armor. "You know, we were willing to talk until that one guy attacked me with an axe. Then we defended ourselves."
The other Dwarf interrupts, her attitude less calm than her companion, "Goddess?!? Haven't you heard...your kind are..."
The human whispers something, as the woman's voice goes silent.
Marnay continues. "Thank you Phethean. Anyway, that's what brought us here. You may be Dragonknights, or were Dragonknights...we are dragon killers. As we have said, there is a price for you folks. A very good one. We hunt dragons for money, why not take a little side job." She looks at the now quiet dwarf. "Unless you can give us a reason not to..."

    3. Tala looks annoyed. "DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT "MY KIND!! We were here long before you half-people and we will be here long after. Eilistraee may guide me, but do not mistake that and believe the fire Lolth has put into me has not disappeared. Trust me when I say the Drow will be the last left standing. And stand up when I am talking to you!!! Oh, wait, you ARE standing." Tala smirks but then grows much more serious.
"If it is your intent to capture us and take us in for reward, have at it. You will die. You are few and short. On the other hand, if it is money you seek via the rewards given for the slaying of dragons, then I would suggest that we pool our resources and make it our mission to eliminate ALL dragons. More money for you, and OUR goal is accomplished. And before you ask, it is non of your business as to our goal - again, we are not in the habit of being interrogated. Know your role."

  4. (squinting) Maaaan....that like, doesn't even make SENSE.
Why would these townspeople like us one minute, then totally want to kill us the next? They were our new almost-friends, man. We totally handled their bad guy / dragon problem and saved them from a harsh winter and stuff. That's like, what HEROES do.

We got no beef with the Pathfinders, even if they're...you know... a little trigger happy.

Besides, we were totally ambushed by some bad guys when we were there at their lodge and had to skedaddle before it all fell to pieces.

    Whatever man. Whatever.

  5. Thomas listens and watches intently as Tala speaks. As Thomas watches her, his face starts to blush and his wide eyes seem to take her in for the first time. But as Marnay responds, he regains his composure.

"Wait... First you claim that we destroyed this town. 'More murder and chaos' you said. Now you claim that the townsfolk attacked you and you killed them in Self-Defense. I say that 'something in the milk aint right'."

Thomas steps to stand shoulder to shoulder w/ Tala. Crosssing his arms, he speaks to Marnay. "I'm on Tala... (blushing) cough...I mean... cough... I'm WITH Tala. I think its time for you guys to start talking."

  6. Thorbjörn sits wearily on the floor, leaning against the wall. He casually spits out a tooth and then rummages around in his pack for the anymug. As the mug fills up with strong-smelling liquor, he says, "I know you're gonna find this hard to believe, but after the beating I just took, I'd prefer a chance to rest and--" he gestures with the mug, slopping whiskey over the rim "--recuperate a bit." He turns his head to look at the dwarves, "So, I'm going to pretend you didn't just accuse me of slaughtering my own people... And come to think of it, I guess it is entirely possible you didn't as I did take a number of hits to the head." The half-jötnar drinks deeply. The half-jötnar abides.

  7. Wong looks about curiously. “It would appear that none here are seeking a fight, but none are doing much to avoid one either. Perhaps, as Tala spoke, if we both share information we both shall profit. We can tell you what we learned going up to the white dragon, though it was relatively straight forward. We fought some fey creatures going up the mountain that sought to barr our way, pixies and a Satyr that had been at odds with the villagers. Killed their children. Eventually, we encountered harpies, a druidic centaur of some cold affiliation, and some wolf-men that all appeared to live in close proximity to the dragon, perhaps it servants. We slew the leader all of those minions and were attacked by the dragon. Nothing was found (that I recall) that gave any indications as to the reason for this Rise of the Dragons ™. Was there anything noteworthy in your conquest of the great Blue? Any fey presence, or other noteworthy aspects of the events?”

    1. Marnay looks at her angered companion. "Calm down Kaylla. There is no need for a fight, we are just conversing." As the other dwarf takes a less aggressive stance, Marnay continues. "Besides, it would seem like these fine folks did our job for us."

  8. "Did someone say it's been six months since the Pathfinder tower fell? How is that possible? How long has it been since we stepped through the portal and saw Heschen killed? A week at most? And the villagers said it would take months to travel here from Absalom... have we been enchanted to have our memories changed? Did we in fact travel here on foot, then get hexed to think otherwise?" Mal turns to face Wong and bends over, presenting the top of his head to the wizard. "Inspect, mage. You know of such things. Has my mind been altered?"

    1. "I believe that Norborg told us it had been 9 months since the "Two Towers" fell. By that, I think he meant the Pathfinder Lodge and the Aspis Consortium tower in Absolam. And we know that those were going down the day we left town. So yes, it seems that our brief trip through the ghostly tower actually took several months. Which is not inconsistant with the way that time passes on different planes. But that also means that things in Golarion are probably NOT how we left them."

Thomas put a hand on Tala's shoulder but turns and stares directly at the other dwarf in the odd armor. "I would appreciate it if you addressed my friend here w/ the respect due a priestess of her stature. Agree w/ her point of view or not, I don't care. But you will show her respect."

Thomas then turns to Marnay. "Is it true that 9 months have passed since the Lodges fell? If so, what is the state of the Drow? Your associate seemed to indicate some aspect of captivity. What of the status of other "first worlders"? Are the gnomes and surface elves also being interned? And IF SO... why?"

      Delete
    2. Before Marnay speaks, Tala reposnds, "I can already tell you the state of the Drow. People like you have put us in interment camps. As if we were lepers. you not only fear us, as you should, but we have been forced to migrate from the Underdark due to some...unforeseen circumstances. And yes, before you ask, I have too been infected, which means that everyone in this room is infected as well. "

    3. The dwarf takes a drink. "I assure you, we meant no offense." The one known as Kaylla chimes in, glancing at Thorbjorn, muttering "At least not to the Drow".
Marnay continues. ""People like us" have nothing to do with your people's plight. If you haven't noticed, the world is cruel, and humans even more so." Phethean interjects with a grin, "Elves of Keyonin especially". As for your disease, we very well may be infected. Not much we can do about that here, your holiness." Marnay drinks again, looking at Tala, then to the group. "Not much of a flock you have, eh? A few humans, a trash giant, and short stuff there...."

  9. Dude...Mal, chill dude.
Time like, doesn't always travel in a straight line all the time ya' know?
Going thru that picture thingy obviously caused some shenanigans and messed with our Ki. It's like we moved thru space and time and ended up in a totally diff'rent place or somethin'.
Hey! Teknik-ally, we're like, 9 months younger than we were or should be or something like that. My mom said I'd appreciate that one day. Wicked.

Is it really today? Or is it, like, some other day and we're just figurin' it out?

  10. "For that matter, we have also observed involvement of the Red Mantis, including (insert description of the traitorous cheick here) and some fellow named Samanthi Xorn. Would you have any information around those lines?"

Wong watches very carefully to see if anyone twitches or otherwise reacts to this new tidbit.

    1. Kaylla laughs. "Samanthi Xorn. You hear that, they met THE SAMANTHI XORN. Idiots."
Marnay once again motions for her companion to calm down. "If the mantis is involved, it does not surprise me. Half the realm is hunting dragons for coin now. Why wouldn't the biggest player want a piece of the action." Again, another drink. "As for Samanthi Xorn, it is a common alias used by the assassins, it is a calling card, almost a joke, mocking those who are naively blind to that type of organization. I assure you it was only one of many who have used that name."

  11. Thorbjörn gesticulates at the dwarves and slurs, "We didn't kill the Pathfindersh in that tower. The Red Mantish did. And if you knew a damned thing about me, you'd know that I never deny a victory. It would be dishreshpectful to Gorum. Againsht my religion if you like." He sighs heavily then suddenly waves his mug around, flinging drops of liquor around the room, "I am shick and tired of all thish magical shite. Not only ish it shite, it ish unreliable shite. And I am tired of theesh shadowy conshpirasheesh too. Dragonsh? Bounty huntersh? Bring 'em on. I prefer a shtraight fight to all thish shneaking around. He looks down at the dwarves with a bored expression, flexing his traps and pecs idly.

  12. Let us all discuss what we know. I have no fear of disclosure, for the truth will either set us all free, or bring us all to blows. If that is what must occur, no matter who is left standing, they will know the truth. I will answer your questions with honesty and as much information as I can give unless it violates an oath I have already taken. If your question conflicts with a vow I have already given then I shall simply tell you that I am duty bound to not answer that question... So what is it that you wish to know. We have discovered that the Dragons have returned. That at the time of their arrival the creatures of the first world, you know us as Fey, have begun to deteriorate at a rapid rate. That the dark void is somehow involved, and that there are dark forces at work. The Red Mantis, (Kulman turns his head and spits at the ground), she has her blood stained hands in this, as does a man with a blue dragon tattoo upon his face. That the dragons are blood thirsty, and demanding tribute simply for their existence. In Belhaim we slew a green dragon who had used dark magic to open a gateway to the void. In this land a white dragon was attacking a village monthly, and then weekly. We traveled with a Druid named Heschen who seemed to know many a person in Golarion. He and Drengel Dreng were convinced that all of this was connected and that the Dragons were the key. We were asked to take them from this world. The Red Mantis and her ilk attacked the Pathfiners in the Lodge. They used stolen way finders and disguises to gain entry and made quick work of the low level initiates in the Lodge falling their tower. We traveled to an ancient vault where we were pushed through a portal to a shadowy realm. Heschen and Dreng lost their lives at that location to the Red Mantis after hurrying us through the portal. We could see the Red Mantis steal a clear orb, one of crystal that held much power, and looked much like a similar orb we had seen at another vault in Taldor. Once we traversed the Shadow world we found another portal which brought us here, and we were asked to help with the Dragon in this land. We did so, our second I remind you. And then after a harsh battle we arrived to find you here with the slain villagers... So now you know what has consumed our time... what have you been up to since Belhaim, as it seems some of my friends met you there at Hunclay's home.

  14. The group listens intently to Kulman’s rendition. When he finishes, and Tala walks out, Marnay speaks again. “An interesting tale indeed. I know a better one. You and your group figured that with your set of skills you would work a couple of jobs. You were hired by someone to take down, or at least help take down the Pathfinder Lodge. Now I don’t know how you did it, or perhaps your tale of the Mantis is correct, but you helped them. They certainly have the means, although aside from coin, not sure what the motive would have been. Not sure I buy that they were there to steal some orb. Theft for hire is not usually their bailiwick.” She laughs for a moment. “Balls as huge as boulders. I’ll give you that…you’ve got balls as big as boulders.” She kicks out a chair towards Kulman. “Doesn’t really matter though. You’re all wanted. As my friend says, 100,000 gold bounty on you. That’s a lot of gold. Not much more we like than gold…except maybe opportunity. So what opportunity do you offer us instead of gold? I mean, while your Drow lady might be right, either way you look at it you are “the shit”, but what she, and perhaps you, don’t realize that we don’t have to kill you….or turn you in, we just need to set the Society on your trail to get paid. A process that is already in process…for now.” She drinks deeply, wiping the froth from her mouth, then belches. “You know what I figure? I happen to think that you did do the lodge job, somehow escaped in the chaos, and then made your way up here over the past several months to hide. Probably told these fine people you would kill this dragon and solve their problems in exchange for sanctuary. Makes sense. It’s what I would do. But as I said, these people were going to turn on you. We took care of that for you. So, back to the opportunity we both hold in our hands. What type of can you offer us to let you live the rest of your lives in peace in the beautiful snowy north…far from prying eyes?”

    1. Thomas stares at Marnay with wide eyes as she relays her theory that the party was responsible for the fall of the Pathfinder Lodge. He looks around at Thorbjorn, now standing, and Tala walking from the room. He looks around widely for a moment, then a wide smile hits his lips. He begins to laugh hysterically. "Oh man... you guys had me. I really believed that you honestly thought we took down the Pathfinder's lodge. Man, you are good Marnay. Did you train your comedy routine in the Kith academy in Oppara? I've seen those shows, and man, those guys are good. But I haven't seen a straight line delivered so well in years." Then echoing Marnay's speech pattern... "Yes, WE are the masterminds behind the collapse of two of the largest organizations in all of Golarion. Then, in our brilliance, decided to hide out in the coldest, BFE place in the world only to wait 9 months and then make our location known by killing a FREAKING dragon." Thomas wipes a tear from his eye... "Marnay, thank you. I haven't laughed that hard in years."

Composing himself quickly, Thomas continues. "Ok, now that we have the fun out of the way, let's get to business. Clearly, you are aware of the dragon orbs, right Marnay? I saw the look you gave your companion there when Kulman mentioned the orb that was stolen by the Red Mantis from the Pathfinder Lodge. So I assume you have also come across them. Did you find the blue orb before or after you killed that Blue? Have you run across any others?"

      Delete
    2. Marnay’s smile and friendly demeanor slips away at Thomas’ comment. In a very stern voice, she responds. “I did not say you were masterminds. I said you helped, that you were involved. That you are on the run and were seeking refuge. From the Society, likely from the Mantis as well. Also, every hunter this side of the Great Sea. Taking care of a Dragon would certainly put this village on your side, perhaps even protect you. I assure you, I do not think you are masterminds, because frankly, your plan if, that is what is indeed is, is complete and utter shit. I agree if that was your plan, honestly, you should call yourselves the Dragoncunts of Dumbass, because that’s the only title you deserved. But after talking to you for the last few minutes, I can’t say that that plan is beyond you.” She relaxes a bit again. “Phethean, orbs?”
The nail-biter quickly throws out a few words. “500,000 gold.....each”
The smile returns to Marnay’s face, as one also grows on Kaylla’s. “Yeah, we know about orbs. Lots of people do, there is a contract out to find them, just like there is a contract out to kill dragons, and a contract out on you lot.” She looks at Thomas. “Do we have any orbs? No. If we did, we likely wouldn’t have come here to kill an ice breathing, man eating, more dangerous than evil, evilest thing in the gods damned realm! We would be sitting on a sand dune on the coast, drinking sparkling Halfling Ice Wine!” Sighing she continues talking to Thomas. “You seem relatively smart. You also to be the leader of your little dysfunctional family, so perhaps you have the most sense. You obviously know something about the orbs, including that one is in Taldor. Certainly more than we knew. I mentioned opportunity. Perhaps that what you know is the opportunity that may have presented itself.”

    3. "I'm definitely not in charge. In fact, I owe this group my life. They rescued me from an abandoned monastery after I had been abducted. I'm just a simple man that speaks the simple truth." Thomas shrugs his shoulders as he says, "And I'm glad that you can plainly see by speaking w/ us that we weren't responsible for the destruction of the towers. Obviously there is misinformation afoot. Speaking of, who is it that has blamed the famed "Dragonknights of Belhaim" with such an act? If the towers fell and killed all inside, who would claims to witness any involvement? Hmmm... Honestly Marnay, you seem wise enough to have thought about that, right?"

Thomas turns to the nail-biting human. "Now, you mention that there are "contracts" out for our heads, and "contracts" out for the orbs, AND "contracts" for the death of dragons. Who it is that is offering these "contracts". What person or group has the resources to offer such a hefty price for the orbs, and dragons, and US all at the same time?"

Responding back to Marnay, Thomas adds, "as a loyal Taldan soldier, I would never tell you that there is an orb hidden deep within the Grand Prince's own vault! I mean, if information of such a thing existed, its source would definitely NOT have come from us! I'm sorry that I cannot tell you about that orb!"

    4. “See, that’s what I call cooperation.” Marnay settles in her seat. “I can tell you that at least one pathfinder made it out alive and from what I understand, she gave pretty good descriptions of your crew. Posters of you guys hang in every big city from Magnimar to Oppara. As for that reward, the Ten themselves are offering it. You my friends, maybe the most wanted people in Golarion right now.” He brow furrows. “The Great Dragon Hunt, as most call it, has been going on for a while. A price for each dragon. No one knows who is offering up that one. All I know is that you sign a contract, and leave it in a box in a certain bank in Taldor. Then you have the exclusive “hunting rights” for a particular dragon, each a chromatic, for a particular time, a week to be precise. If the beast is killed, money simply appears in your box. As you can see, we took care of Ol’ Blue just a few days ago. They even let us keep the head. We were coming to deal with Whitey, thought it could convince the locals we have the ability, the means, and the drive, perhaps they could give us some love...”
Kaylla smiles slyly. “I expect our money is there now, thanks to you…of course.”
Phethean’s voice cracks. “As for the orbs, no one knows what they are, or where. The offered payment for those things, if they exist, is all rumor and speculation. It’s all black market stuff, like most artifacts. Taverns, whorehouses, and thieves guilds…”
Marnay stops him by raising her hand. Her voice shows suspicion. “Don’t get me wrong, we appreciate your help, but you seem awfully quick to tell us where we can find one of these mystery orbs. Seems like you know more. Why do you think we would have a blue orb….you think…” a realization comes across her face. “No…you know…the dragons and the orbs are connected.” She slams her hand on the table. “Torag’s beard! Again, opportunity smiles on us. What exactly did you find in that mountain…?”

    5. "HA!... one pathfinder you say... and that "SHE" gave a good description... I bet she didn't have crutches this time around. Wonder if she's still using the name Robyn though... what a bitch!!!"

"By the way...who said anything about the location of an orb? As I recall, NO ONE here mentioned the location of any orb... especially any orb in Taldor! Don't you forget that!!!"

Thomas turns back to the other Dragonknights. "Great Dragon Hunt... I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not. Heschen wanted us to kill the dragons since that was somehow connected with whatever was truly going on in Golarion. So anyone else helping us achieve this, despite their reasons, is still a good thing, right?. Maybe this will free us up to focus on the connection between the dragons and what is happening to the first worlders. I say we should just let the treasure hunters deal with the dragons while we get down to the business of what is truly causing the issues in the land. Thoughts?"

  15. Wong’s brow furrows. “Something the Great White said before it was slain . . . misunderstanding? Your barbarian tongue is so crude. It said we had misunderstood something? Somehow indicated something bigger was going on that folk did not realize. If it had not so unfortunately chosen to begin its own demise by attacking us instead of treating with us, perhaps we could have learned more.” Wong looks to Tala. “Sometimes, the divine can allow us to speak to the spirits of those who have moved beyond this world. Can you make such an entreaty to your lady? Perhaps if the spirit of the Great White realizes it has something it should have said to us in live, it would share such a message from Beyond.”

  18. Marnay sits up after listening to Wong. She shakes her head. "Look, we are all business people here, I am sure we can come to some sort of agreement. I am not in the business of turning in fellow freelance contractors, no matter how much I may dislike them." She nods to the drunk half giant. "But, the reward is enticing, and the Ten, unlike many others, certainly have the money to back up their bounty." She sits back again. "You took care of our dragon for us. Which, as I already said, is likely already in our coffers. We appreciate that. But that money would have been ours anyway. You have also given us some info that may turn into more gold, and we appreciate that as well. We took great expense in traveling here, equipment and preparation was not cheap. As I said, there is one, in my eyes, more bit of compensation that we could have received that could resolve this whole matter, and we would be on our way. Dragon's have hoards. Once again...what did you find in that mountain?"

    1. "Marnay, I agree w/ you that we can reach an agreement that resolves this discussion w/o drawing weapons. As I see it, we saved you the time and some consumables in dispatching the Whitey for you." Thomas looks to the human, "You are welcome." Looking back to Marnay, "Thus, you saved coin in that regard. ALSO, I assume that you took out the contract in Oppara for the death of the White. For that you are also welcome! By my math, that's probably 120K of gold that you are ahead. Additionally, you indicate that YOU somehow acquired more lucrative information while you were here. I wish you very well... as that could add a large sum of coin to your coffers. Given your saved "opportunity costs" and financial gain from the bank in Oppara, I think you have come out with a very fair deal. I'm sure there are more contracts back in Oppara to keep you all busy if you are just bored. I can assure you, you will get no competition for contracts from us. What do you say, Marnay... how about we agree to part here and go our separate ways?"

  19. "Hmmm. We could do that. We could just leave, and we could part as mutual adventures...or we could part as friends. Again, what did you find in the dragon's hoard?"

  20. "Given your deference for 'independent contractors' such as yourselves, I would like to consider us respected acquaintances. At this point, I believe that we have other matters to attend to. So if there is nothing else further to discuss, I believe we shall be leaving now. I wish you all the best in your dragon hunting. May your coffers always be full..."

With that Thomas begins to back out of the room (not turning his back to Marnay) while attempting to also usher out Thorbjorn. He glances at Wong and Kulman and gives a head gesture toward the door. He heads out the door to find Tala.
